2012 Fact Or Fiction?

2012 Fact or Fiction?

The end of Days documentary was broadcast in 2007 by one of the worlds most renowned TV channels, it has been a starting point for many and has sparked the interest of millions of people. The Maya, I Chin, Sybil, the book of Revelations and even an advanced computer program called the Web-Bot Project all point to a grim doomsday and all talk of one date. For this specific date to have been mentioned by so many different cultures at such differing times in history then surely this cannot just be coincidence?

Documentaries on the subject of 2012 are one of biggest reasons why this subject is so popular and controversial today but yet not all would agree that what you see is entirely factual.
John Major Jenkins a researcher into Maya cosmology and the Mesoamerican calendar systems spoke about the "Mayan Doomsday Prophecy" documentary and says "it sounds like a fairly non-biased survey of ideas, theories, and scholarship. Well, it’s not. It’s 45 minutes of unabashed doomsday hype and the worst kind of inane sensationalism. The History Channel educates us only in how NOT to make a documentary about 2012. I speak from the vantage of someone who was consulted on the script content. In addition, as a researcher into Maya cosmology and the Mesoamerican calendar systems, I was also interviewed for the documentary and appear in several segments. In fact, my pioneering work was supposed to be featured. However, the original concept for the presentation morphed through a series of executive edits to result in the error-riddled and flagrant attempt at fear-mongering and sensationalism."

Many sources interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Mayan calendar which occurs on December 21, 2012 by the most widely held correlation to mean there will be a major change in world order. However there is a distinct lack of evidence from the records of the Maya civilization that they themselves considered this occurrence in 2012 would signify "the end of the world". So what, if anything will occur on this date?

2012

2012 predictions have been for told by many cultures. The Mayan calendar, one of the oldest Chinese texts, Nostradamus and various other prophets are all said to predict the end of time or the world as we know it. Even a modern day super advanced computer project all pinpoint one exact date.

The great cycle of the Mayan long count calendar ends on the winter solstice of 2012 A.D. We are living today in the Mayan end times, the end of a time period spanning thousands of years. One galactic day of 25,625 years is divided into five cycles of 5,125 years in the Mayan calendar. We are almost at the end of the fifth and final cycle.

2012 Research

Several authors claim that a major, world-changing event will take place in 2012.
Books written on the subject of 2012:

The 1995 book The Mayan Prophecies linked the Maya calendar with long-period sunspot cycles.

The book 2012: Mayan Year of Destiny claims the Maya may have been instructed in their wisdom by discarnate entities from Orion and the Pleiades. Contact was maintained through shamanic rituals conducted in accordance with the movements of planets and stars.

The 1997 book, The Bible Code claims that, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code, a meteor, asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth.

The Nostradamus Code speaks of a series of natural disasters caused by a comet (as above) which will allow the third anti-christ to disperse his troops around the globe under the guise of aid in preparation for a nuclear war.

The Orion Prophecy claims that the Earth's magnetic field will reverse.

Terence McKenna's mathematical theory predicts a point of singularity in which humankind will go through a great shift in consciousness.

The Prophecy of the Popes, attributed to Saint Malachy, speculated that Pope Benedict XVI would reign during the beginning of the tribulation of which Jesus spoke, and sometime later a future pope described in the prophecy as "Peter the Roman", the last in this prophetic list, would appear, bringing as a result the destruction of the city of Rome and the Last Judgement.

Many new age spiritualists and philosophers ("new-agers") believe humankind will enter an age of enlightenment in 2012. There are a range of varying, generally positive, beliefs shared by a subset of spiritualists from the mundane to exceptional, including a positive social shift and age of peace, mankind becoming psychic and connected by a collective, or an evolution of the human race into non-corporeal beings made of "spiritual" energy, or light energy. An alternative view is that we are already thought-forms and will be realizing our true selves in this year.

Some UFO / extraterrestrial enthusiasts, along with some new-agers, believe 2012 to correspond approximately with the return of alien "watchers" or "caretakers" who might have helped the first human civilizations with developing their technology and may have been waiting for us to reach a higher level of technological or social advancement. Beliefs range from the extraterrestrials having benevolent purposes, such as to help human society evolve, to malevolent purposes, such as enslavement of mankind.

In 1976, Zecharia Sitchin stirred up a great deal of controversy with the publication of his book, The Twelfth Planet. Nibiru also known as Planet X or The Twelfth Planet is said to be quickly nearing the Earth right now and could cause global devastation. Most historians, anthropologists and archaeologists consider it all Sumerian myth, of course. But Sitchin's work has created a die hard group of believers and researchers that say the return of Nibiru is close at hand - possibly around 2012?

2012 End Of The World

Now equipped with the power of the Internet and freedom of information a new generation of research has begun to emerge into the subject surrounding 2012. Some Internet researchers, scientists and reporters claim to have gone beyond the original prophecies and theories.

Solar flares & Magnetic Storms

From August 28, 1859 until September 2, 1859 numerous sunspots and solar flares were observed on the sun. Just before noon on September 1, British astronomer Richard Carrington observed the largest flare, which caused a massive coronal mass ejection to travel directly toward Earth, a journey of 18 hours. Remarkable because such a journey normally takes three to four days. On September 1st–2nd, 1859 the largest recorded geomagnetic storm occurred, causing the failure of all telegraph systems over Europe and North America.
